BREEDERS AND RESIDENT MARE AWARDS REMINDER

July 19, 2023

MANALAPAN, NJ — July 19, 2023 — The SBOANJ would like to remind all breeders that you must be a current member and have a 2023 W9 on file at the SBOANJ office, in order to receive any breeders or resident mare awards money.

New Jersey Breeder awards, part of the state appropriation allocation, are based on 12% of the purse amount earned by each horse finishing 1 through 5 in divisions and finals of certain New Jersey Sired races. See the SBOANJ website for the complete list of races.

The SBOANJ resident mare rebate is designated for mares who reside in New Jersey 150 days up to and including foaling. Include your USTA foal registration along with application and send to SBOANJ no later than October 31, 2023. Foal registration MUST be included with application.

There are a membership and W9 forms on the SBOANJ website for your convenience.

Breeders and resident mare awards will not be granted to any breeders that are not a member of the SBOANJ or have not sent in their W9 forms. For more information, please visit www.sboanj.com or call 732-462-2357.

MANALAPAN, NJ — July 1, 2026 — The Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ) will be officially conducting its 2025 Economic Horse Racing Impact Survey. Completion of this survey is mandatory for all New Jersey harness racing trainers, to ensure the industry continues to receive vital state backing. Data collection is a statutory necessity tied directly to the state's five-year, $100 million purse appropriation program. Lawmakers require annual economic impact reporting to prove that the state's investment successfully stimulates the local economy, preserves open space, and generates substantial tax revenue. Past data collection efforts directly helped the SBOANJ, TrotPAC, and industry advocates successfully restore and protect the full $20 million annual purse supplement in the state 2027 budget. "Our annual state funding relies entirely on our ability to prove the immense economic footprint of harness racing in the Garden State," said Mark Ford, President of the SBOANJ. "Every single submission acts as evidence to lawmakers that our industry supports thousands of agricultural jobs, local vendors, and family farms. Failing to participate puts our collective future and our purse supplements at direct risk." The 2025 survey compiles critical data regarding capital expenditures, annual payroll, local vendor spending, equine populations, and land conservation impacts. The SBOANJ will be reaching out to all NJ trainers for help completing these surveys participation is crucial to our industries continued growth.
