EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- February 7, 2025 -- With the MADC back in full swing, three pace races were carded on Friday night (March 7) at The Meadowlands.

Speed didn’t hold up in any of the three amateur races as the tail wind for the first half-mile of the race ended up helping the closers make their moves in the lane. The wind played some role and thus equated for a -1 track variant. All three races also had a familiar theme from last year, with none of the betting favorites winning any of these events.

In the first race on the card, it was an easy lead for the 15-year old Iammrbrightside N (Anthony Verruso) who set sensible fractions for the first half but was unable to sustain his bid in the stretch and only managed a third-place finish as the odds-on favorite.

It was a three-wide bid as the field entered the stretch by Urban Renewal (David Glasser) that paid dividends as he went on to score the victory by 3-1/4 lengths. Longshot Stolen Art (William Clark Jr.) sustained a long rally outside to hold on to second while Verruso faded to third. The mile was timed in 1:56.1.

It was a milestone victory for Glasser, who picked up his 50th lifetime win.

Urban Renewal is a 12-year-old gelding owned by Glasser Racing and trained by Mike Watson.

In the fifth race, with a race that showed a ton of speed, it was only Ferdinand A (James Slendorn) who left from his outside position to take the top spot where he likes to be into the first turn. Longshot Cole On The Beach (Matt Zuccarello) floated out of the gate from his outside post and was forced to go on as no holes were found. He gained the top spot before the half but that was short lived as the outer flow came calling and overtook him heading into the homestretch.

It was a patient three-wide grind for Sunshine’s Finest (Clark), who was able to get up past all contenders in the final strides to win by a half-length. The betting choice, Dunsan Harry (Tony Beltrami), finished second over Yayas Hot Spot N (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan), who rounded out the trifecta. This mile was timed in 1:55.

The winner is a 9-year-old gelding co-owned by Clark along with Mary Cuerbo. Clark also trains.

In the ninth and final MADC race on the card, it was once again a battle for early supremacy. After Paduka N (Bruce Baker) grudgingly gave way to a parked out Bargain Shopper (Beltrami), who finally cleared just before the half-mile stanza, this set up another horse from off the pace to gain the victory.

This time it was Captain Terminator (Geovany Hernandez) who was able to get through traffic from his mid-pack position to get up by a half-length over the betting favorite Gallie Getaway (Mark Silva). Yer So Bad (William Harrison) charged home late from way back to garner the show dough. This race was timed in a fast 1:53.4.

The winning 10-year-old gelding is also owned and trained by Hernandez.

The MADC series will be back next Friday night and post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
