The SBOA's mission is to support and promote the Standardbred industry in New Jersey by nurturing and preserving a favorable business climate while striving to secure closer business and personal relationships among all industry participants throughout the state.

Benefits of membership include:

Sulky Insurance

If your race bike is damaged in a race at the track, you must fill out a sulky claim form with the Horseman's Representative within 24 hours. This can be done on site or by calling the SBOA office at 732 462-2357. The bike must be inspected-on site- before a claim can be submitted and any repairs made. The owners, trainer and driver must be members of the association in order to receive compensation. (limitations apply).

Third Party Liability

Membership provides third party liability coverage for an eligible member who owns a

standardbred horse that causes bodily injury or property damage.

Pension

Standardbred drivers and trainers who meet certain requirements qualify for the SBOA Driver/

Trainer pension plan. This is a non-contributory plan that benefits horsemen who participate in

the New Jersey racing industry.

On site track representation

An SBOA horsemen's representative is available at both the Freehold Racetrack and the

Meadowlands Racetrack.

Representation in Trenton

The SBOA and its advocates represent the Standardbred horse industry and its participants in

Trenton, working tirelessly to insure that the well-being of the industry is considered by the

lawmakers of New Jersey.

Health and Welfare

The SBOA offers health insurance to qualified horsemen. The Benevolent Committee provides

support to horsemen in need. The Backstretch Community Assistance Program (BCAP), under

the direction of Dr. Chris Samaha, offers free counseling and many other health and education

programs. BCAP and the SBOA sponsor college scholarships to qualified students of active NJ

horsemen.
