NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — June 23, 2025 — After serving in numerous roles during her time at Rutgers University, Dr. Malinowski will retire on July 1, 2025 having dedicated over 47 years of her life to serving Rutgers, New Jersey, and an international equine community. Starting her tenure at Rutgers in 1978 as the Assistant Extension Specialist in Horse Management, she has worn many "racing colors" (or silks) over the years. But perhaps the most important one is Founding Director of the Equine Science Center at Rutgers University.

To honor her lifelong commitment to “Better Horse Care through Research & Education”; the Rutgers University Equine Science Center, and the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey, are cohosting a retirement celebration at one of her favorite places in the world, the Meadowlands Racetrack.

While Dr. Malinowski has always been interested in all things equine, having the opportunity to drive the famous Niatross on his fare well tour became an instant lifechanging moment. Dr. Malinowski had been bitten by the racing bug, and spent several summers learning how to drive harness horses under the tutelage of Andy Toscano and the staff at BJ Farm in Jamesport, New York.

In 2001 Dr. Malinowski acquired her first Standardbred racehorse, Could Be Magic, who carried Malinowski to victory in her amateur debut on April 12, 2003 at Freehold Raceway. While she had significant success with Magic in the American Harness Drivers Club races, it wasn’t until she began racing one of her next horses, Hugme Christi, that she won the AHDC final at the Meadowlands on June 2, 2005 in club record time of 1:55:4; receiving the second fastest time overall for a female driver at the Meadowlands.

This special memory has been one that has persisted over the years as a defining moment for her love of horses, and the raw power that that these equine athletes possess.

So, come and share in Dr. Malinowski’s love of horses on Saturday July 12th at the Meadowlands Racetrack to celebrate her retirement, and enjoy a night of some of the best Standardbred racing during the Meadowlands Pace

Tickets for the event are $100 and include a dinner buffet and entrance to the Meadowlands Racetrack’s Skybox Suites.  Sponsorships are also available starting at $500, and include tickets to the events and other perks.
